Blue Mind x Blue Carbon: 'This is Science You Can Dance To'

From the moonlit hours spent dancing on tropical shorelines to the icy clinking of glasses at beach club sunsets, water is intricately interwoven with our most idyllic nightlife memories.

With water serving as the beating heart of inspiration for countless artists, Blue Mind Day, celebrated on July 23rd, is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the power of music to transcend borders, unite our consciousness and inspire a wave of change towards a plastic-free future!

What is Blue Mind?

Know that feeling you get when you walk on a beach?

Or party by the poolside of a stunning clifftop venue?

Or the late night dip under a canvas of starry sky?

That feeling is Blue Mind.

Characterised by the mildly meditative state our mind enters when we're near, in, on or under water, the ocean changes us - one drop of peace, awe and wonder at a time.

Dancing towards a cleaner tomorrow is the essence of Bye Bye Plastic's mission - but it's always been about more than that.

Inspired by a bold, earth-centred vision, we believe that music is only the tip of the iceberg for a collective wave of change.

Bringing together our global community of green (and blue) hearted eco-warriors is built on something greater: a collective blue mind that has the power to drive solution-oriented narratives and turn the tide on single-use plastics, forever

“SOS took me 5 years to finish and put out. I consulted the water about every aspect of this album, I never feel nervous in the ocean when I am swimming in open water. I love the isolation, the vastness, the emptiness. I definitely feel that fear and anxiety are part of who I am.”

What is Blue Carbon?

Backed by a new kind of system that financially supports marginalised communities, blue carbon ecosystems are becoming increasing beacons of possibility in the race to tackle climate change.

Alongside the innovators, scientists and change-makers featured in her film Blue Carbon, Jayda G stands out as an artist channeling her sound as a DJ through an entirely alternative lens: environmental toxicology.

Ignited by the desire to bridge the world of music with science, Blue Carbon paves the way for a new perspective: designed to give voice to the seagrass meadows, mangrove forests and salt marshes that need our protection - and unveil the magic of our planet's precious blue carbon sinks.

"Every time there is an opportunity for us to communicate important and powerful messages through music, we have to do that"

Through rivers and streams, water is the lifeblood of our Pacha Mama. If nothing else today, we invite you to reconnect. Take a sip of water, transport your gaze to an imagined watery horizon and fall back in love with the ecosystems that glisten with creative possibility.

"There is no technology we humans can invent that is as powerful or as versatile. We need to plant and protect, nature will do the rest. This is science you can dance to."
